David has represented clients at all stages of civil litigation. He has helped them extinguish cases early through motions to dismiss and motions to compel arbitration, briefed summary judgment and class certification motions, taken and defended numerous fact and expert witness depositions, crafted settlement strategies, led trial teams, and briefed appeals. He has defended Fortune 500 clients in a variety of industries, including health care, life sciences, and technology companies.

David is committed to pro bono. For nearly two years (2018-2020), he served as the firm’s senior associate in charge of U.S. Pro Bono, litigating high-profile civil rights cases and managing the firm’s Pro Bono practice. Focusing on injustices in our criminal legal system, David has advocated for people who were wrongfully convicted or sentenced to death, for exonerees seeking compensation for civil rights abuses, and for a class of indigent defendants deprived of their Sixth Amendment right to counsel. He was also a key member of a team that successfully challenged Virginia’s practice of automatically and permanently housing people sentenced to death in solitary confinement, which resulted in a landmark ruling that solitary confinement violates the Eighth Amendment.

Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, David served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Todd M. Hughes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
